Frequently Asked Questions

Considering our school? Please take a look at some of the more common questions we hear.

The mission of the Montessori Academy of Evansville is to nurture children’s inherent strengths and potential.

The Montessori approach allows each child to progress through the areas of the classroom at his or her own pace. Children are free to pursue their own interests, regardless of what other children may be doing. At the same time, if children need more support in an area, they can have as much time and opportunity to master skills without feeling like they have fallen behind.

It is true that on either coast you will pay $20,000 to $30,000 a year for a Montessori preschool education. Here in Evansville, however, we fall in the middle range for private preschools. See our Facebook post on June 17, 2013 for price comparisons with other preschools.

For current tuition rates, please see our Tuition Information page.

Children’s freedom in the classroom is made possible through carefully planned grace and courtesy lessons, and simple yet regularly reinforced expectations of behavior. Children are allowed to make choices within this well-defined structure. During specified work time, children may choose work that interests them. Our goals are not just academic, but include teaching children how to think, reason and make choices. The classroom is a prepared environment where each choice has a developmental purpose.

Our families report that the foundation laid during their children’s formative years at Montessori produce students who are well equipped for their continuing academic years, and beyond. You do not, however, have to take our word for it! Each year we hold a parent night forum in which former Montessori parents return to talk about their transition experience to other private and public schools, and current and interested Montessori parents are invited to ask questions.

“Montessori teaches children the fun and love of learning itself. It is the only school that allows children to learn at their own pace. The results are astounding and surpass what children are doing in a traditional school setting. My six year old daughter requested chapter books for her birthday and reads simply because she enjoys it! We have no doubt that Montessori gives children a solid educational foundation that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.”

“Montessori Academy encourages children to find joy in learning. They provide an education that encourages children to be self-disciplined with an internal sense of purpose and motivation. Montessori is a warm and supportive community for children. The children are happy, intellectually simulated and secure. Montessori works!”

“Montessori provides a dynamic, encouraging learning environment. Students strive for independence through consistent, direct sensory experiences. They are encouraged to think creatively, constructively critique their own work as they develop, be collaborative and observe, experience and engage. Montessori asks them to challenge themselves enough to fail at times and helps them celebrate their many successes. The commitment of the teachers is second to none. Students leave with a lifetime appreciation of and intreats in learning, a sense of community and a better understanding of the world.”

“Montessori Academy is a school that individualizes education based on students’ abilities and performance levels, learning strengths, as well as their personal interests. Montessori develops and inspires excellence in academic, leadership and entrepreneurial development.”
